Enjoy a six-day healing retreat for Black woman who are seeking Calm in the Chaos. Our healing practices include culture and contemplative practices, which consist of exploring Senegal’s vibrant and dynamic culture, (re)connecting to nature, celebrating our collective capacity for resilience and resistance through visits to the new Museum of Black Civilizations, Goree Island and the African Renaissance Monument, reflective journaling, practicing healing rituals, enjoying Senegalese cuisine as well as daily yoga and other body-centered practices (beginners are welcome and encouraged to attend) with a particular emphasis on restorative yoga for resilience.
We are holding space for this retreat in Senegal, West Africa to inform our individual and collective capacity to heal the dis-ease and trauma in our Diasporic Souls.
2020 Retreat Offerings
February 29 – March 5, 2020
March 14 – 19, 2020
We will be lodging at the Tangor Guest House; accommodations consist of rooms with two single-beds, armoire, chair, meditation cushion and bedside table. Guests use our spacious dormitory-style bathroom. Our yoga classes and community convenings are held on our rooftop, terrace, balcony and salon.
You will have access to our rooftop, our plant-filled lower-level terrace, balcony with alcove, a large common space that opens out onto the balcony and our salon. And, of course, we have wifi, although we only want you to use to call home not to work.
Meals, which will include a number of traditional Senegalese dishes, are provided on-site. Please let us know if you need us to provide vegetarian or vegan meal options; we will do our best to accommodate you.
We recommend traveling via Washington, DC on South African Airlines, which offers a direct flight to Senegal’s newly opened airport (DSS), which is a few short minutes from the Tangor Guest House. You may also consider other airlines; however, our retreat will begin on the mornings of both January 19 and March 2. Our retreat will end on the evenings of January 24 and March 7. Other airlines, including Delta|Air France and Air Maroc, fly into Dakar with a range of layover locations. We are certainly happy to make arrangements to accommodate you for an additional night should you chose to arrive on a day early or depart a day later.
*We recommend that you sign-up for price alerts for fare sales, which are quite common between late November i.e. Thanksgiving and early Spring. Prices can be quite discounted during these sales for this time period.
Of course, we will meet you at the airport when you arrive and provide you with transportation back to the airport at the time of your departure.
Electronic Payments are payable via invoice generated once space availability is confirmed upon receipt of your registration.
